REED

The Reed avocado is a very round, very large, green avocados with a creamy smooth texture and excellent buttery-flavored flesh. Considered by some to be the best tasting if not creamiest avocado, the Reed has an excellent flavor that is rich, bold, and nutty. Reeds have a softball-sized shape with a deep green rind that is slightly pebbly in texture. Reed Avocados are a warm weather favorite.

GEOGRAPHY/HISTORY

In 1948, rancher and farmer James S. Reed discovered a delicious new variety of avocado growing on his land in Carlsbad, California, which was the lucky result of a cross of two other types of avocados. He named it the Reed avocado, and about a decade later the variety earned a patent. It’s now grown on hundreds of acres throughout California.
